Products Description of 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole CAS#149-30-4
2-Mercaptobenzothiazole, commonly known as Accelerator M, is a universal rubber vulcanization accelerator suitable for most rubber materials. At room temperature, 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole appears as pale yellow crystalline solid or powder with a distinctive unpleasant odor and a slightly bitter taste. Industrial crude products are mostly grayish-white, while high-purity reagent grades take on bright pale yellow crystals.
The compound is insoluble in water and gasoline. It features excellent solubility in common organic solvents including ethanol, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, benzene and chloroform, and can also dissolve stably in dilute alkaline solutions.

Product Application of 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole CAS#149-30-4
2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (Accelerator M) provides rapid vulcanization acceleration for natural rubber and sulfur-vulcanized synthetic rubber, with its activity triggered by common activators such as zinc oxide and fatty acids.
It is frequently blended with other accelerators to optimize processing performance. It can be compounded with thiuram disulfide or dithiocarbamate for butyl rubber, combined with tribasic lead maleate to produce light-colored, water-resistant chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber, or mixed with dithiocarbamate for latex systems. Mixture with diethyl dithiocarbamate diethylamine supports room-temperature vulcanization.
It disperses well in rubber mixes and features non-staining characteristics for rubber production. Its bitter taste limits applications in rubber articles intended for food contact. It is also a key intermediate to manufacture a range of rubber accelerators including MZ, DM, NS, DIBS, CA, DZ, NOBS and MDB.
In fine chemical and dye sectors, it is used for organic synthesis. It reacts with 1-amino-4-nitroanthraquinone and potassium carbonate under reflux in dimethylformamide to produce C.I. Disperse Red 121 (Disperse Red S-GL), which dyes polyester and blended textiles.
This compound acts as an electroplating additive known as acid copper plating brightener M, serving as a levelling and brightening agent in sulfate bright copper plating baths. Further applications include pesticide fungicides, nitrogen fertilizer synergists, cutting oil additives, lubricant additives, photographic anti-ashing agents, metal corrosion inhibitors and analytical reagents.
